Cindy Nelson, LMFT

Cindy embarked on her journey to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) at 42, bringing a wealth of life experience to her calling. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Vanguard University in Southern California and completed her master’s degree in 2007 at Chapman University’s satellite campus in Santa Maria. By 2013, she was a licensed LMFT, ready to make a difference. Her career has spanned diverse settings, from supporting youth in the foster care system to specializing in substance use disorder, particularly medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use. Eventually, she transitioned to private practice, where her work has consistently been rooted in Attachment Theory, exploring how early environments shape mental health across childhood and adolescence.

In 2023, Cindy’s curiosity led her to Innerbloom. Intrigued by their newsletter and website, she saw potential for her clients and decided to experience ketamine therapy herself in order to be able to advocate authentically. After her third infusion, she felt compelled to pursue training in this modality; by the fifth, she approached Dr. Ray Rivas with a bold request to join his team. Now Cindy is certified in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy through the Numinus Training certification program. The rest, as they say, is history.

Working alongside Ray, Libby, and therapy dog Eli at Innerbloom, Cindy guides clients through transformative healing journeys—helping them prepare for treatment, process their experiences, and chart a meaningful plan for the future. She witnesses remarkable shifts: individuals emerging from debilitating darkness, and clients once “stuck” in therapy finding new paths forward. This work has become the most fulfilling chapter of her career, blending science, empathy, and hope. Each year, Cindy commits to six ketamine treatments for her own growth, staying deeply connected to the surreal experiences her clients navigate. She journals diligently, practices intentional integration, and carries a treasure trove of stories she’s eager to share. Her approach is grounded, compassionate, and ever-curious, inviting others to explore healing with courage and care.

Note: While we collaborate closely, Cindy owns and operates her own private practice which is independent from Innerbloom Ketamine Therapy PC.
